The book really does not tell any specific time period. What_time_period_did_the_book_sounder_take_placeor year but it has to be after the civil war because that is when sharecropping started. Sharecropping was between 1865 and 1877. So it has to be in that time period.

it is also a great book to read for historical fiction:) ^(o..X)>

it is a book for more young adult i wouldn't recommend it for younger children

SOUNDER AND THE BOY.

Okay, that's not a very good answer, whoever answered before me.. for important characters having much to do with the story line, there's sounder, the boy, his mother, his father, his siblings, (I'm pretty sure there are 3) and the teacher. for brief or unimportant characters, there are the jailer, the deputy and his partner, various unnamed people along the road. that's all I can think of. If anyone has anything to add, go ahead.
