John Howard was the 25th Prime Minister of Australia, serving from 1996 to 2007. This made him Australia's second-longest-serving PM. During that time, he built Australia up into a rich economy, settling it up to handle the worldwide recession most adequately. (He has not been credited with this, as Kevin Rudd is the prime Minister who followed, and actually experienced the recession.)

After not being accepted by the states the first time, the amended Commonwealth Constitution was given Royal Assent on 9 July 1900. In the case of Australia he was appointed by the British government in a ceremony where the duke of york ( later to be crowned King George V) opened Australia's first Parliament On the 1st of March 1901. After this first Prime minister was installed by the British all further Prime ministers would be chosen by the people aside from those that were leaders of caretaker governments while there was no Parliament at election times.

There have been no more limitations imposed on the Prime minister of Australia according to the Constitution of Australia. The Political and Justice system in Australia works within the bounds of the constitution and no changes have been made there since Indigenous Australians were included in the census (regarded as human beings).
