No, unfortunately President Franklin D. Roosevelt did not survive to see the end of the war. Instead he was replaced by his new Vice President Harry Truman, whom ironically he barely knew at all.
Chicago Mayor Anton J. Cermak was shaking hands with Franklin Roosevelt when Mayor Cermak was struck by a bullet that is believed to have been intended for Roosevelt. The shooting occurred on February 15, 1933, and Cermak died on March 6th. The assassin was Giuseppe Zangara.
