Stalin had no designated period of rule. He gained power by slowly pushing other figures out out of the picture one by one. Stalin gained a lead role in Soviet politics in 1924 at the death of Vladimir Lenin. However, it wasn't until the time period of 1928-1932 he gained full control of the USSR.

He lost control at his death, in 1953.
