I bought a beautiful one today at Savers for 1.99. It is in beautiful condition. I know it is electroplated, and worth more than that. I did see one for almost 98 bucks on ebay. I suppose it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
If the bowl is stamped "sterling," it is genuine sterling silver, not silver plate.
Though it is not recommended it is possible to boil wax in a silver bowl. This is because the boiling point of wax is lower than the boiling point of silver.

It depends upon the weight of silver, the age, the design, the condition and which silver smith made it.
Do not take my input as definitive... I found one at my local Goodwill for $3.99 and Goodwill online has one for $5.00. E-bay has one for $10.99, and replacements.com for $15.99.
