When Pompey won the Third Mithridatic War against Mithridates VI of Pontus in 67 BC, he annexed the eastern part of the kingdom of Pontus (in north-eastern Turkey), Cilicia (in southern Turkey) and Cyprus and reduced Armenia to a Roman client state. In the same year he annexed Syria and turned Judea into a Roman client state. Egypt was annexed in 30 BC.
