All Dollar coins issued for circulation from 1971 to date contain no silver
All Dollar coins issued from 1794- 1935 are 90% silver. In the years of 1936-1970 no one dollar coins were struck.
Non common? Please rephrase question. Many "Silver Dollars" were struck in the 1800's.
Two types of silver dollars were issued in 1921, a Morgan dollar and a Peace dollar. The easy way to tell the difference is on the reverse (back) of a Peace dollar the eagles wings are folded, on the Morgan they are spread out. Post a new question after you find out which one you have.
This may get a little confusing: For 1971 & 1972 all the "S" mintmarked coins are 40% silver and were struck as Proof and Uncirculated. From 1973 to 1976 the Mint issued a Copper-Nickel "S" mintmarked Proof coin along with the 40% silver issues. No silver coins were issued in 1977 & 1978.
All silver dollars (1794 to 1935) had various depictions of the American Eagle. Modern (non-silver) dollar coins have several different designs: Eisenhower, Anthony, and 2000-2008 Sacagawea dollars also have an eagle 2009 and later Sacagawea dollars will have various Native American designs. Presidential dollars have the Statue of Liberty.
Numismedia lists the value around $7 dollars for clad(non-silver) and $65 for silver proof sets as of a 5/2012.
Not much I'm afraid, unless it has an "S" mintmark and is 40% silver and worth about $6.50-ish in silver content. Collector demand for Eisenhower dollars are rather low and many banks still have non-silver Ike dollars in stock if you ask for them.

The British 1996 Two Pound coin was the last Two Pound coin to be issued as a non-circulating commemorative. The coin was issued as a "specimen" and a "Proof FDC" coin. In addition to the nickel brass coins, the Proof FDC coins were also issued in silver, piedfort in silver and gold. All "Proof" coins would be issued in some sort of packaging for protection. Any coin issued in a precious metal would need to be certificated to provide a guarantee of authenticity to the purchaser.
