No, prior to Franklin Roosevelt enacting a third term, there was no mention in the number of terms a president could serve in the Constitution. Since George Washington had just served two terms, most presidents had taken it as an unspoken rule. After President Roosevelt died in 1945, Congress created the Twenty-Second Amendment which limited a president to two terms of office.

Franklin D. Roosevelt broke the tradition by seeking and winnings a third term in 1940, and then a fourth in 1944. To prevent future Presidents from following this precedent, the 22nd Amendment made the unwritten custom limiting presidential terms a part of the written Constitution. This amendment was adopted in 1951.

Until 1951, the Constitution place no limited on the number of terms a President might serve. Franklin D. Roosevelt broke the tradition by seeking and winnings a third term in 1940, and then a fourth in 1944. To prevent future Presidents from following this precedent, the 22nd Amendment made the unwritten custom limiting presidential terms a part of the written Constitution. This amendment was adopted in 1951.

Yes- he was the only to actually run for a third term. Grant indicated that he would accept a draft for another run in 1880, but he was not nominated.
