Most people assume that because there are no other children of Adam and Eve are mentioned, that there were none, or that because Genesis chapter 4 follows chapter 3, that there was nothing happening in between. In Genesis 5:3 we find out that Adam was 130 years old when he and Eve had Seth born, who was the first child after that Cain killed Abel as that event was still fresh in Eve's memory (Genesis 4:25), that would indicate that Cain killed Abel around year 129 from creation. In 129 years, this youthful and healthy couple (Adam lived 930 years), living in a world with no television, no fluoridated water, and eating pure, organic, vegan diet would at least have had a 100 children, I can not say exactly how many but it is clear that Cain, Abel and Seth were not the only ones (Genesis 5:4) Besides that Cain and Abel would have been well over a 100 years old at the time, old enough to have lots of children and grand children of their own. So to answer your question - there were lots of people for Cain to be afraid of, as a murderer of the patriarch of a rival tribe.
