There is box that you can check when you create your question, and that will email you when your question was answered.
Why do you have to sign in to be notified when your question is answered?
Because otherwise how could we let you know? We need to know who you are to put a notification on the web page if your question gets answered, or have your email to send you a message to tell you it is answered. (You can change your email settings in "My Settings.")
