When Islam was hijacked and who did it?

Islam is the religion and guidance provided to human beings by Almighty Allah. It can't be hijacked. There are millions of Muslims in the world. The efforts of the last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) and his holy Companions (RAU) were not meant to be hijacked by any sect. Though the Jews and certain groups of enemies of Islam started hatching conspiracies against Islam even during the reign of First Rashidoon Caliph Hazrat Abu Bakr RAU. The first three Rashidoon Caliphs established the Muslim Empire, yet during the last days of Hazrat Usman rau the Jews and some Khawarjis of Kufa rebelled against the Caliph and martyred him. It was then that a new sect came into being during the reign of fourth Rashidoon Caliph Hazrat Ali rau. It was much later that the beliefs of this new sect were formed under the name of Shiaism. No such sect existed during the reign of first four Rashidoon Caliphs. All the books containing the beliefs of Shiaism were written much later than the death of Hazrat Ali rau.

Islam has two major components: a Religious component and a Governmental component because Mohammed created a theocratic state upon his death.

As concerns the Religion: Since the end of Rightly-Guided Caliphs, Islam has no central religious authority, so the idea of it being "hijacked" (which implies that a central authority was removed and replaced with a different one with antithetical views) is incorrect. However, your question touches on the modern problems within the Islamic Communities. In the Ottoman Empire and other concurrent Empires in the Middle East / North Africa, there were Ulema or Scholars who promoted an Orthodox version of Islam. With the destruction of these Empires during the colonial age and the repression of the Ulema and Moslem Communities, non-scholarly orators began reading in views contrary to those held by the various Ulema. (Note not all of the Ulema agreed with each other, but respected each others learned views. These new orators did not have a proper Islamic education.) These voices resonated with the poor, illiterate classes because they faulted external forces for the people's problems and did not ask people to form introspection. As a result, those voices gained strength in terms of arms and willing sacrificial lambs. Most Muslims still disagree with these people, but since many Muslims remain uneducated, these more problematic views remain quite prevalent (although nowhere near as large as people in the West tend to believe).

As concerns Politics: The Umayyad Dynasty, which inherited the Caliphate from the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, did not honor the religious commitment of the previous Caliphs and thus "hijacked" the future of the Islamic State.
