If you are trying to use new harware (digital camera, printer, etc.) and the hardware didn't come with a disk to install the software, then one option is to find the website for the hardware (HP, Canon, etc.). Look for a link to download drivers and select the model of hardware and download the software. Most things you plug into a computer need software in order for the computer to use it. Almost every type of hardware has drivers online to download (in case you lose the disk that came with it, or there was none). You could just Google the name brand of the hardware and "drivers" and you should find them. After you download them, try plugging the USB back into the computer and see if it recognizes it then. If not, call the company that made it for technical support.
