Normally it appears white with black text. Tabs can also have colours set for them. When you click on a tab that has this done, a thin line of that colour will be on the bottom of the tab, with the rest of it being white.
The tab of an active worksheet is highlighted and the text is bold. It can display whatever color you choose. When you click on a tab that is colored it displays a color that faded from white at the top to the selected color at the bottom.

At the top of your worksheet is the formula bar. On the left side of the formula bar is a small window that displays the active cell reference or name.

I suppose the current worksheet would be the one you currently are working on. It is the active worksheet.
