Males are always ready to mate but the female is the one you should pay attention for the period she can mate. Females will fight a male dog if they are not ready to mate.
Any female dog in season/heat will attract males from miles around. The smell of a female in season is very potent and it signals to males that she is ready to mate.
The male knows when the female is ready to mate because when she is in heat there is always a strong scent she lets off and it's carried in her urine, by peeing on the lawn or on the fence males can smell a female on heat by her urine. That is also why whenever dogs meet they sniff each others hindquaters as to find out gender and weither or not they're ready to mate.
If they are not too old and the female is ready, then they will mate.
I think the male has to come along at the time she is ready to mate, and it does not matter if the dog is older, younger, or related. Dogs have a natural instinct to mate. Dolphins are the only mammal other than humans to mate for fun!!
early spring
I personally think that 5 is a good age to mate your dog.
No it does not neccesarrliy mean she is in heat. When a female dog comes in heat she will begin a period of seven days, when she is done bleeding, then she is in heat and ready to mate.
with a hell of love
Anywhere.Male and female dogs are everywhere.
Has she come on heat yet?
