The shape of the magnet is unimportant. Any moving magnet can induce a voltage in a wire. Or any changing magnetic field. If the magnet rotates, its magnetic field will change, so yes.

The electricity flowing through the tight coils of wire creates a strong magnetic fields from one end to the other. By running the electric current through a wire you can create a magnetic field. The force lines up all the magnetic particles in the nail and turns it into a magnet. The more coils of wire there are , the stronger the magnetic force.
Have you ever seen a magnet? Did you see the field? There you go. While you can't see the field itself directly, you can see the effects of the field if you use iron filings or something like that; they'll line up with the magnetic field lines
