It's very scientific... Apparently, the citric acid in your mouth causes a reaction with the sodium hydrogen carbonate and that causes the sour taste but I'm not completely sure on that so be careful. However, I am sure it is to do with the citric acid and that has sourness in it.
Citric acid (if pure and in the anhydrous form) is a single molecule with the formula C6H8O7. So - NO - citric acid is a compound, but not a mixture.
