The Bible is very clear that mankind is NOT made up of two parts: physical body / and soul. Mankind does NOT have an 'immortal soul'.
Genesis 1:20 shows that even animals are called 'souls'. Animals do not go to heaven or hell.
Genesis 2:7 does NOT state that Adam was 'GIVEN' a soul upon creation; Adam BECAME a soul. The physical man Adam WAS a soul, just as animals ARE souls.
Therefore when a 'soul' dies (animal or mankind), all life ends. There is nothing living and conscious that goes anywhere.
Ezekiel 18:4 clearly states that 'the soul that sins, it itself shall die'. Therefore even 'souls' DIE.
Instead of teaching the 'immortality of the soul', the Bible teaches there will be a 'resurrection', 'on the last day'. Until then, the soul is DEAD.
