Depending on the make and model of the drive there us usually a small pin hole on the face of the device. Behind that pin hole there is a manual release lever. Some drives come with a tool (Poker) for this or you can straighten a paper clip to push in this hole. On slim drives (like laptops) the tray just will pop open by about half an inch when pressed. With full height drives (most desktops) you may need to apply a little more force as it slides open by about an inch. then the tray continue to open freely.

Personal locks are used to lock up and secure personal property. They are often used for lockers at work or at the gym. Personal locks are also used to lock up travel luggage. There are different types of personal locks. Some of them are combination locks, and some use a key. Personal locks have different levels of security, as a small, cheap lock and be easily defeated by lock picking or brute force. Large and strong padlocks provide more protection, because they can endure a great deal of force and require tremendous effort to break open without a key. High quality personal locks can be obtained from specialized locksmiths. Personal locks are also available from Amazon.com and they usually cost less than twenty dollars.

If you are referring to a CD drive or a DVD drive, the preferred method is to use a paperclip. I typically use the large paperclip, straighten it out. In the front of the drive look closely for a tiny pin hole. Push the paperclip into the hole and the drive will open.
