When was the Cuban flag first flown?

What flag was flown over the Alamo?

The "Alamo flag" is often thought to be the same basic design as the flag of Mexico with three vertical stripes (green to the left, white in the middle and red to the right) with the date1824 in the very center of the flag's white stripe. There may be no solid proof that this was the "Alamo flag" at the time of the battle. The most likely flag flying over the Alamo in March of 1836 was the "New Orleans Greys" flag - a gray-blue flag with the words "First Company of Texan Volunteers." This flag was believed to have been taken by the Mexican General Santa Anna who led the battle against the Texans at the Alamo. The flag is still in the possession of Mexico.

How did the confederate flag look during the civil war?

There were 3 different National Flags. The national flag is the flag that symbolizes the country. It was not the "rebel flag" that you see on back of pick-ups. This "rebel flag" is known as the Confederate Battle Flag as it was issued to the regiments. Each regiment would carry a Battle Flag and a National Flag. The first official flag of the Confederacy, or First National Flag or also called the "Stars and Bars," was flown from March 5, 1861, to May 26, 1863. This flag had a field of 3 stripes: RED, WhITE, RED. In the upper corner was a BLUE Field with 13 white stars in a circle. The problem was that from a distance this flag was mistaken for the US "Stars and STripes. So they changed it.The Second National Flag of the Confederacy, called the "Stainless Banner," was put into service on May 1, 1863. This flag was an all WHITE flag with the upper corner having a small version of the Battle Flag. The problem with it was that it looked like a white surrender flag. The Third National Flag was adopted March 4, 1865, just before the fall of the Confederacy. It was just like the Second National Flag but a wide, vertical RED stripe was added to the outter edge(away from the flag staff).Confederate Battle FlagThe Battle Flag was the RED flag with a BLUE "X" trimmed in WHITE and having 13 Stars in the "X". This flag was used by many regiments, but NOT by all of them. Many states adopted a flag similar to their State's flag. Examples are Texas and South Carolina. Then some Army commanders would design a flag that was adopted by all the regiments under his command. This was true of General Bragg's Army of the Tennessee and General Polk. However, in 1863, most flags had been replaced by the Battle Flag, as many had new flags issued to them. This flag has been adopted by the Klu Klux Klan and many hate groups. It has been seen on many modern battlefields where Southerners painted or displayed it on their tanks, airplanes or jets.

A nation's flag may be flown half way up a flag pole as a symbol of respect, mourning, or distress.

Which country's flag is never flown half mast?

In the UK there are two flags 1. The Union flag (sometimes referred to wrongly as the Union Jack) may be flown at half mast 2. The Royal Standard. This is the flag of the Queen (currently) it is actually the standard of the monarch and so as there is always a King or Queen it is not flown at half mast

It is not illegal, but it is against tradition and protocol and would not be proper. The United States flag flies on top, then beneath that the state flag, and then beneath that, the Confederate flag may be flown.

What design is at the top left corner of the nz flag?

The British Union. It is commonly referred to as the "Union Jack" but technically that name applies only when a flag of that design is flown from the jack staff at the bow of a ship. When flown on land it is called the Union Flag. When flown at sea you can be in trouble because only the Royal Navy may fly the Union Flag or Union Jack at sea. Private citizens are not allowed to do so; their yachts must fly the Red Ensign.

Are state flags flown at same height as us flags?

State flags may be flown at the same height as the US flag, unless on the same flagpole. There is an urban legend that Texas' flag is the only one that can be, because it was an independent republic before joining the US, but that is false. There are links below.

No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag's right.

No flag is officially allowed to fly higher than the American flag when they are both displayed together. The Canadian flag can never be flown at night True or False?

False. There is no restriction on flying the Canadian national flag at night without illumination. Consider the fact that a large portion of Canada has continuous night for a considerable part of the year. In those isolated climes where it may not be practical to provide artificial illumination, what would we have them do? Of course if it is practical to do, it is not wrong to illuminate it, but the Canadian Heritage Department simply states that "The flag may be flown by night as well as by day."
