Astronauts do not completely leave the earth's gravity, they only enter a state of free fall orbiting the earth causing weightlessness. The astronauts that went to the moon technically do not leave the earth's gravity, they simply get close enough that the moon's gravity has a stronger effect than that of the earth's gravity. The distance at which this happens is called the sphere of influence. The moon's sphere of influence is approximately 66 000 km, this would be about 315 000 km away. In the Sun earth system, the earth's sphere of influence is 925 000 km.

Therefore if you are within 919 000 km of the earth's surface, it's gravity will be the primary gravitational force experienced. The only exception is if you come within 64 500 km of the moon's surface.

How did the astronauts return from their space travels before the shuttle?

Part of the rocket was the module in which they lived and when they wanted to come back to Earth they would fire small retro-rockets which would slow the craft down. It would then fall out of orbit, re-enter the Earth's atmosphere and splash down in the sea, its speed being contolled in the last stages by a parachute. The module would then be recovered by a ship waiting for it.

What is the difference between comet and meteors?

Comets are flying bits of rock that don't enter the earth's atmosphere and meteors are flying bits of iron stone or stony iron. Also meteors do enter the earth's atmosphere.

How do meteors orbit the sun?

Meteors do not orbit the Sun. Meteors are to be found/seen in the Earth's atmosphere burning up. Before they enter the Earths atmosphere they are called meteoroids and if they land on Earth they are called meteorites.

Do meteors hit Jupiter?

yes, Numerically-speaking, the orbits of meteoroids dominate our knowledge of the orbital parameters of Earth-crossing small bodies: the meteoroid orbit database outstrips the numbers of observed Earth-crossing asteroids and comets by over two orders of magnitude. Whilst it is often imagined that small meteoroids are predominantly derived from comets through stream formation, and thus must have comet-like orbits, in fact the majority of observed meteoroid orbits are more similar to those of Apollo and Aten asteroids, with small, low-inclination orbits. In all about 69 000 meteoroid orbits are available from the IAU Meteor Data Center in Lund, Sweden, having been measured in various optical and radar observation programs based in the U.S.A., Canada, the former Soviet Union, Somalia, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Australia. Depending upon the detection method used, the original meteoroids producing the observed meteoric phenomena range in size from 100 m to 10 cm. Here the raw orbital, radiant and speed distributions are presented for the major surveys, a common format being used so that they may be intercompared such that general conclusions may be drawn, and the differences between the survey results identified. These data, collected over the past several decades, provide an important source of information on the origin and evolution of the small bodies in the solar system. information by springer link.com

Who is stronger humans or the Na'vi?

Na'vi grew up on a planet much smaller than earth, which is why they are much taller. It is perposterous to say na'vi are much stronger than humans Its simple biology. Are muscles were design, or evolved to enable us to walk around on a planet with a high level of gravity. Humans are in fact much stronger than Na'vi sense there muscles wouldn't have to be as strong to walk around on Pandora. Who ever keeps saying Na'vi are stronger is a moron. Especially sense when humans enter a lower gravity, our hearts wouldn't have to work as hard to pump blood. Seriously... that's common sense.

How do you experience weightlessness on earth?

You can approximate weightlessness in a swimming pool. NASA astronauts practice maneuvers under water.

What force is need for a rocket to enter the earth?

gravity

Why do astronauts feel dizzy when they enter the earth's atmosphere from spending a long time in space?

They begin feeling gravity again which is now pulling all their blood and it changes their blood pressure and the fluid in the ear drums.

How does gravity enter your atmosphere?

It doesn't "enter" the atmosphere, it comes from the large mass of the earth which creates a gravitational pull.

When did the astronauts enter Apollo 11?

The astronauts entered the Apollo spacecraft by a hatch.

What causes meteors to enter earths atmosphere?

Gravity. And the meteor is on a path that intersects the orbit of the Earth.

How did the astronauts enter the Lunar Module?

There was a hatch in the lunar module.

Why do astronaut have to be healthy before going into flight?

Because in space flight, and especially in extended space flight, astronauts do not enjoy the benefits of the force of gravity. The gravity on earth provides resistance to movement, thereby continuously maintaining muscle health and strength. Without this benefit, astronauts' bodies can become weakened quite rapidly; therefore they undergo strenuous diet & exercise both prior to and during manned space flight missions.

Why does Earth get meteor showers?

Earth sometimes receives meteor showers when a large object breaks apart in outer space. Once the pieces enter earths atmosphere they are dragged to the ground by gravity.

Why meteors are not revolve around the earth like the moon when they come close to earth?

Some are tiny, just the size of a speck of dust, so they are floating through space and they enter Earth's atmosphere.

What happens to objects that enter the earths atmosphere?

the objects which enter the earths atmosphere are being pulled down towards the earths surface due to the earths gravity. And so it leads to falling falling of large objects from the space on the surface of the earth.

Were did Mae jemison get on the rocketship?

All astronauts enter the Shuttle at the 195-foot-level of the launch tower.
