Really, the best age to give kittens away is about 12 weeks. You should never give 6 or 8 week old kittens away as they are still too young. It usually takes 12 weeks for kittens to learn all the vital social behaviours they need to develop into well behaved adult cats, as well as knowing how to groom themselves and use the litterbox.

Pedigree kittens probably need a little more time than moggies, so you should definitely give them away between 12-14 weeks.

Your kitten should at least be old enough not to feed on its mothers milk, to able to eat solid food easily, to use the litter tray and should be well socialised with its siblings and human family.

It should be at least 12 weeks old.

You can start giving away the kittens at 12 weeks. The earliest you should give them away is 10 weeks, but it is preferable to delay weaning until they are at least 12 weeks old because these kittens will grow up to be more emotionally secure cats.

The best time is March to April as all cats start breeding at the beginning of March so there will be plenty to choose from during the Spring months. However, most animal shelters are usually full of cats and kittens throughout the year, so this is probably the most ideal place to go when looking to adopt a kitten.

Take your time when looking for a kitten, especially if looking at breeders. A good breeder will ask a potential buyer many questions, and will not let a kitten go until it is 12 weeks of age. Letting a kitten go any earlier can cause behavioural problems later on.
