Can you touch new born puppies without the mother rejecting them?

I touched my new born kittens as soon as Midnight had cleaned them up.
My cat trusts me, so no problem holding her kittens, but I still held them where she could see me and petted her too and let her know I was going to lay it right back down with her. I didn't hold them but a minute or so, just long enough to let them know humans where ok too! Then every day I would hold each one for a short period and pet and talk to them.

∙ 12y agoJudging from our recent experience, the mother cat will not reject her newborn kittens even if you touch them, lift them and weigh them. However, it very stressful for the mother cat so the less you handle the kittens, the better.
Some mother cats may possibly reject their kittens if they made contact by humans. When the mother makes newborn kittens, the mother would care and defend them from any suspicions and threats. Touching and holding her kittens may cause her to reject them which is a bad thing. When they kind of situation happens, the mother will refuse to take care of them and leave them alone. I recommend that you should not touch or hold them. Find ways to get them spayed and neutered by a veterinarian

∙ 12y agoI'm sure it wouldn't because in my experience i have picked up a newborn cat and the mother didn't care! But if your cat starts hissing you might wanna put the kitten back

Generally speaking, it depends on the cat. A pet or breeding Queen will likely not mind their owners touching or picking up the kittens, some are more at ease while the owner is present. Many reputable breeders will handle kittens every day in order to check them over and weigh each kitten in order to record their growth, with no protests from the mother at all.
