There are several planes correctly associated with Amelia Earhart. There was also an autogyro used for altitude record attempts (many of which still hold as autogyros are obsolete). Her autogyro flights were sponsored by the Beech-Nut company.
Canary was the nickname for her Avro Avian circa l93l. the Aviatrix , while she used many rented craft , actually owned only Two the Red Bus-Lockheed Vega now in the Smithsonian, and the ill-fated Electra- also made by Lockheeed. the Electra was purchased in l935 and of course, used on the project bearing that name- l937-.
Her FIRST aircraft was a yellow Kinner Airster, bought in California in 1921. She named this 'Canary'. The Avro Avian lll was her second and known only as '7083' or EBUG. The red Lockheed Vega 5 was her THIRD aircraft.
Amelia flew a lot of different aircraft in her career. The first was a Kinner Airster, a light sport biplane built at the field where she learned to fly. She called this 'Canary' as it was small and yellow. Her favorite aircraft was a red Lockeed Vega 5, a powerful high wing monoplane popular with many aviation heroes including Wiley Post who set many record flights. Amelia's final aircraft was a silver Lockheed Electra 10, a twin engine airliner. This was actually owned by Purdue University where she was a teacher.
I searched and could not find a name for any of Earheart's airplanes. There is a commercial on TV that shows her lost airplane with a name on it but that is totally fictisious.
It was a Lockheed Vega 5B, named 'Little Red Bus' although Amelie often called it 'old Bessie'.
The first plane Amelia flew was a Kinner Airster.
Amelia named her red Lockheed Vega 'Little red bus' , and often called it 'Old Bessie'.
On the final flight she was flying a Lockheed Electra 10, a small twin engine airliner.
