Auschwitz, also known as Auschwitz-Birkenau, opened in 1940 and was the largest of the Nazi concentration and death camps.
It closed down on January 1945 when the Soviet army entered Krakow

Appalling conditions, the toilets were completley open, so disease spread pretty quick

The Buna-Werke, which made synthetic rubber, was part of the I.-G. Farben Group. It established its very own (private entreprise) concentration camp close to Auschwitz. It was called Monowitz (or Auschwitz III) and used slave labour to produced various plastics.
