1962.
It could be said that refugees began coming to Australia in 1836. This is when German and Prussian settlers first arrived, fleeing religious persecution in their own countries. Many more groups of Prussians and Germans came in the ensuing years, with some of them supported by wealthy Scottish landowner George Fife Angus.
Lyndon Johnson in 1966 was the first US President to visit Australia. He was seeking support for the Vietnam War.
when refugees make a choice to move to Australia they usually have problems like, what socks to pack? ar maybe wether they should take a baseball cap of a sum hat... usually the first thing that goes into their suitcase is watermelon, which doesnt help them getting past security so they probably got sent back anyway cause ya know...we don't want them, or their watermelon.
First large battle.
They say its coming out inEngland first, its coming in Australia the fall of 09.
Too many to count. There are so many people emigrating to Australia every year that it's hard to keep up. In the start, of course, there was British, Irish, Scottish, etc. with the first settlers and convicts but as time has gone on more and more cultures have become a part of Australia. There are many Italian families that emigrated during the 1930s, 40s, 50s; multiple Vietnamese refugees that came to Australia during and after the Vietnam War; while today there are Middle Eastern and African refugees joining our country, not to mention all those who choose to move to Australia - English, Americans, Canadians, French, Spanish, etc. Australia is a multicultural country, with no overall ruling culture.
Immigrants to Australia come from everywhere; their different cultures mix and blend while retaining their individuality. Australia is incredibly rich for this.
this was in may 1970 people gathereed in capital cities like sydney it was to go against conscription in Vietnam war
yes it is but its coming out in America first and than the other countries :)
The first generation of Germans did indeed come to Australia as refugees, although not in the sense that refugees are seen in modern times. The German people sought to escape religious persecution. Under King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia, they were not permitted to practise their own religion and were forced to join the state church. The first group of 21 German Lutherans arrived on the ship 'Bengalee' on 18 November 1838, followed two days later by the main group on the 'Prince George'. They first settled at the town of Klemzig.
