Camp Kagawong, a truly remarkable boys camp on Balsam Lake, Ontario, was finally closed by the founder's son, William Chapman around 1970. Sadly, Mr. Chapman had lost his son in a tragic car accident a few years previously, and it seemed to many as though he simply lost the will and desire to keep the camp running. Kagawong, originally located on Manitoulin Island, was the second oldest camp of it's kind in Ontario and was founded in 1908 by Ernest Chapman, the sports director at St. Andrew's College. The property was sold and divided into private lots, some purchased by loyal Kagawong alumni and staff.
