Canada has always been a part of the Commonwealth Games . They were originally known as the British Empire Games and were first held in Canada in 1930. As former Empire countries became independent the name has changed over the years first to British Empire and Commonwealth games in 1954 then to the British Commonwealth games until the present name was adopted in 1978.
Canada has participated in every games and hosted them several times.
