For the most part, Captain John Smith was looking for adventure by coming to America. He was an avid explorer who wanted to see what was over the next mountain.
His plan was to be involved in colonizing Virginia. Not only would it generate profit, but he was to also govern a portion of the colonies.
He didn't find it. He came after Jamestown was established and took over command of the half starving men who were left.

Jamestown entered a period called the Starving time. Without Captain John Smith and Pocahontas to act as go-betweens the Indians refused to trade with the settlers.
The name is Edward Smith. He listened to Bruce Ismay when he told him to go faster. When the ship hit the iceberg, there was nothing he could do at that point. There weren't enough lifeboats on the ship, not enough for half the people. Captain Smith would not have taken one of those lifeboat spots for himself of course, so he had no other option but to go down with his ship.
he came to America with no intentions to hurt any of the native Americans I don't even think he knew there were native Americans there CORRECTION Smith came on the second ship to Jamestown and for a short time was military commander of the colony. The colony was located in a Native American empire of 14,000 so he knew there were Native Americans. He was very unpopular with the men of his command. In fact, he was so unpopular they tried to kill him. While sleeping gun powder was sprinkled on him and lit. He got severe burns and had to go home. He was a rake and lied about what he did in his book.
