Between 1527 and 1530 Henry attempted to divorce Catherine, but failed.

In 1530 he decided to break with Rome in order to divorce her, making him the main ruler of England so therefore he could decide on the laws.

On May 10th 1533 the divorce came before court and by May 23rd 1533 the marriage was declared "null and void," giving Henry the divorce he desperately needed.
