He also declared Himself to be Lord of the sabbath: "the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath" [Lk. 6:5]. St. Paul also told the Colossians not to "let anyone condemn you in matters of food or drink, observing festivals . . .Sabbaths." [Colossians 2:16-17] Why? Because from the earliest days of the Church, Christians worshiped on Sunday (the day of Our Lord's Resurrection and the Day the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles on Pentecost).
