Christianity came to Poland in 956. Mieszko I had married the daughter of Boleslav I and was baptised before the wedding. He began baptising many people in his then pagan country. He did this to decrease the power of the pagan priests. Since Christmas comes at the time of winter solstice. it was easy to get people excited about a celebration at this time of year. One of the Polish solstice customs was to carol at houses to get baked goods and oats. That was not hard to Christianize.
