Basically, Von Daniken is concerned with the alleged space-travel and UFo existence and assistance to man, in the Ancient Past. One is reminded of a popular series of science fiction novels that had sidetracks into ancient cultures. if the cultures were extinct, there would be no ethical problems in picking up their artifacts and technology. One such novel ended with a ( presumably dead and inert) UFO resting on the ocean floor in , you guessed it, Atlantis, just outside the range of the underwater explorer"s equipment. Von Daniken did not get into Atlantis but really applied high-energies to the Ancient Astronauts theme. basically past-oriented. No future time tables. I have read Chariots, Gods from Outer Space, ( alternate title Return to the Stars) and Gold of the Gods, so I know my Von Daniken.
Any psychologist worth the price of their couch would return your question with, "Why do YOU THINK you see aliens in your inkblot tests?".
If we were there, we would be aliens. If they were here, they would be the aliens. Depends on the type of alien.
