Western Europe's prosperity is based on strong economies
Because the southern states were economies based on slavery and many in the northern states felt that slavery was wrong.
The economy of Southern Europe is one of the largest economies in all of Europe. It is more agriculturally based than the other regions of Europe, especially in the southeastern portion. However, there are very large industrial based economics in Southern Europe as well, mostly in Italy and Spain.

Many societies in developing countries are currently in a transition phase from agrarian to industrial economies. Countries such as India, China, and various African nations are experiencing rapid industrialization and urbanization as they shift from agricultural-based economies to manufacturing and service-based industries.
Slavery during the colonial time was profitable for both the northern and southern colonies. However, southern economies depended so steeply on the agricultural goods produced in vast quantities. The north on the other hand were primarily based on commercial economies which heavily relied on their numerous ports which required less slave labor.

Plantation economies were primarily based on the large-scale agricultural production of cash crops, such as sugar, tobacco, cotton, and coffee. These economies relied heavily on the labor of enslaved people, particularly in the Americas and the Caribbean, where the demand for these crops drove the establishment of plantations. The profits generated from these crops fueled economic growth and trade but also supported the brutal system of slavery that underpinned the plantation system. Additionally, plantation economies were often characterized by monoculture, where a single crop dominated the agricultural landscape.
There are several countries that have a market based economies. France and England are two countries that have this type of economy.
