Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only US president to serve more than two terms. He was first elected in 1932, won a second term in 1936, a third term in 1940, and then an unprecedented fourth term in 1944. Unfortunately, he did not live to complete that fourth term, and he died suddenly, three months after he was inaugurated, in April 1945.
