in the early 1600s I believe
the dutch east india company
He traveled to the East Coast of America or the "New World", also what is today's New York.
They were both European explorers who explored the east coast of Canada.
Henry Hudson was English. He explored for English merchants and the Dutch East India Company. He looked for the Northeast Passage to India and the Northwest Passage to the Spice Island. Part of his exploration for the Northwest passage led him to explore the Hudson river for the Dutch East India company and laid the foundation for Dutch settlement of New York. He did not explore on behalf of Spain.
Henry Hudson was exploring the New World to locate among other things, a passage to the Far East. He traveled up a large river later known the Hudson River. The river was named after him. Upon sailing up this river he discovered that it was not a passage to the far east.

Hudson was hired by the Dutch East India Company to find an easterly passage to Asia in 1609 and departed from Amsterdam on April 4. In July, he arrived at Nova Scotia. From there, he sailed to Cape Cod and along the coast. He began his exploration of what is now known as the Hudson River on September 12, 1609.
