Officially, the reason why Henry VIII beheaded Anne Boleyn was because she was guilty of adultery, incest, and high treason. However, it is much more likely that he was angry that she did not produce a male heir to the throne.

King Henry VIII accused his second wife, Anne Boleyn, of treason (having an affair) because she couldn't have a son, and because he had divorced Catherine of Aragon just two years before, another divorce was out of the question, especially since divorce was illegal then until King Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon.

The rhyme of King Henry's wives go like this:

Divorced, beheaded, died.

Divorced, beheaded, survived.

He divorced his first wife Catherine of Aragon because she couldn't give him a son.

He beheaded his second wife Anne Boleyn because she couldn't give him a son.

His third wife, Jane Seymour, died after giving birth to Henry's only legitimate son (he had an illegitimate son Henry FitzRoy) Edward.

He divorced his fourth wife Anne of Cleeves because she was 'ugly'.

He beheaded his fifth wife Katherine Howard (only sixteen-twenty and Anne Boleyn's cousin) because of her past.

He died when he was in his sixth marriage to Katherine Parr, who died of childbed fever nearly two years later. (She married Thomas Seymour, her first love, and had his child Mary Seymour before dying).
