He did not discover that he was Jewish. This was a defense that was considered by Nazi Sympathizers when it became clear that Hitler and other Nazis would be indicted for crimes against humanity for the genocide of the Jewish people, among others. One of the avenues taken to "win the trial" (which never took place because Hitler committed suicide) was to claim that Hitler was Jewish. If this were to be the case, then, the faulty logic went, that he could not be Anti-Semitic (a hater of Jews).

Of course, everyone knows that you can certainly hate members of a group that you identify with. There are numerous incidents of African-Americans being racist to other African-Americans (usually lighter Blacks on darker Blacks), Hispanics being racist to other Hispanics (usually criollos on andinos/indígenas), etc. Thus, it would be quite possible that even if Hitler were Jewish (which is counterfactual), that he could still be Anti-Semitic. Unfortunately, this quasi-defense has become popular urban myth.
