well, i have been wondering the same thing. i went through few books with his notes, and searched online for any documentation about his water pump, because i wanted to build one.
Leonardo made notes about his "Hydrolic water pump for a fountain, Codex Atlanticus, 1478-1518". Google this phrase and you will get see a picture of his note.
when i was in the museum of science in Boston, there was/is there a copy of one machine he designed, i cant recall if they said that he actually built it.

water pump will sit on engine with lower radiator hose inlet to the left, make sure you dont have a "long water pump", it wont work, 350 is a "short water pump"
