On November 28, 1520, having successfully escaped a storm in the passage now named the "Strait of Magellan", near the southern tip of South America. Magellan's expedition, which encountered severe weather and a mutiny, was in the area of southern Argentina from January, 1520, until October, 1520 (including the winter in the Southern Hemisphere). From November 1 to November 28, they navigated the stormy waterway which they named "All Saints Channel", arriving in the Pacific only after one of their four remaining ships turned back and returned to Spain.

He set sail for the West Indies in 1519. He was killed on the Island of Cebu (The Philippines) in 1521. So he couldn't set sail for Spain. The survivors from his original five ships returned to Spain on the one remaining ship in 1522.
