Manitoba became a province because they needed a new one
Manitoba is one of Canada's prairie provinces. The province of Manitoba is located between Saskatchewan and Ontario. Ontario is their neighbour to the east of Manitoba, while Saskatchewan is their neighbour to the west of Manitoba. Nunavut is Manitoba's neighbour to the north, and the American states of Minnesota and North Dakota border Manitoba to the south. Manitoba's current premier is Greg Selinger. Manitoba entered the Confederation on 15, July 1870. The capital of Manitoba is Winnipeg. Manitoba's population was last estimated to be just over one million people at 1.2 million.
Manitoba was not one of the founding provinces as it was only created to quiet the Métis people, and the Métis issues didn't reach a point of action until 1870.

Seven of Canada's ten provinces share a common border with the US. They are: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec and New Brunswick. Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador do not. In addition, Yukon, one of Canada's three territories, also shares a common border with the US. Northwest Territories and Nunavut do not. Nunavut, however, appears to share a common border with Denmark, because the border runs through Hans Island.
