If you typed too fast on a typewriter the keys would often jam.
The first typewriter was called the "blind typewriter" because the early models did not have a visible carriage. This made it difficult for the typist to see the letters as they were being typed, hence the term "blind typewriter."

To correct mistakes on a letter typed on a traditional typewriter, you can use correction fluid to cover the error and then retype the correct character over it. If the mistake is minor, you can also use a typewriter eraser to erase the character before retyping it. Be sure to let the correction fluid dry completely before continuing typing on the paper.
Manual typewriters are still in use because they work. They need no power source, they don't require an internet connection (or bill), there are no menus or updates to figure out, whatever is typed on a manual typewriter is strictly confidential unless the typist shares with others (needs no security programming), needs no updates of any kind, needs no maintenance except dusting and an occasional new ribbon, and if a beverage is spilled into it, the function is not jeopardized!
