Nikola Tesla first worked as an engineer in Maribor (today in Slovenia) in 1878. In 1880 he was in Budapest working in a telegraph company. In 1882 he moved to Paris and in 1884 to the United States where he worked first for Thomas Edison in New Jersey. Tesla formed his own company in 1886 in New York. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1899 to continue research there on wireless telegraphy. His Wardenclyffe project in Shoreham (on Long Island N.Y.) began in 1900.AND WAS NEVER MARRIED

Tesla was well known as an inventor of numerous devices that applied his advanced knowledge of electricity and electromagnetism. Besides this, he worked at a telegraph company and an assistant engineer in in his youth, and later as a chief electrician and an engineer in his own right for a telephone company. He later worked for the Edison company, providing them with several patents and upgrading their generators; he was later tricked out of pay for this, and later left to form his own company, where he did much of his research and invention. Later he smiply focused on doing research alone.

In 1881, Tesla moved to Budapest to work under Ferenc Puskas at a telegraph company, the Budapest Telephone Exchange. That was his first official job since he gave classes to get paid and did other unoffical jobs.
