Yes, he needs a passport, but no, it's not like everyone else's. The president (any US president-- not just Mr. Obama) receives a special "diplomatic" passport, as do his immediate family, and any top officials who might be traveling with him. When the president travels to other countries, that travel is coordinated for him by the State Department.
First, it should be noted that since the President is a U.S. citizen (born in Hawaii), the only passport he has ever held would be a U.S. passport. He has received a U.S. passport on a number of occasions, since passports must be renewed every few years. Given that he has done a lot of traveling during his life, we may safely assume that he has renewed his passport whenever it was necessary to do so.
