The mainland end of the Confederation Bridge is near the Nova Scotia border. The Woods Island ferry service runs between PEI and Nova Scotia as well. When Terry Fox was running in Prince Edward Island during his Marathon of Hope in 1980, he received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the local community. His journey through the province was marked by significant public support, as many residents came out to cheer him on and donate to his cancer research fundraising efforts. Unfortunately, his run was cut short when he was forced to stop due to the return of his cancer, which ultimately led to the end of his marathon in September of that year. Despite this, his legacy and impact on cancer awareness and fundraising continue to resonate today.
