Is Puerto Rico a nation sate?

Puerto Rico is currently a territorial possession of the United States. Even though a territory of the United States, YES, Puerto Rico is considered an island nation. Since they are "part, but NOT part" of the United States. Over many years, despite the island's status, Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans have build up their own identity and a strong nationality now seen and felt around the world. The mojority of Puerto Ricans, even with US citizenship, say that they are Puerto Rican, not american, and that Puerto Rico is their country, not the United States. Despite debates and politics, you can say Puerto Rico is considered a different nation. (Own national anthem, own national flag, own national olympic team, own Miss Puerto Rico, and other national identities that have made Puerto Rico its own nation) (Not a soverign nation though)

Is Puerto Rico a US district?

Puerto Rico is not a US district, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the U.S.A., but Puerto Rico is self governing, Puerto Rico has its own laws, senators, and leaders that are elected by the Puerto Rican people. Puerto Rico can make its own laws without approval of the US government. Puerto Rico also speaks Spanish, only 1 out of 10 people on the island speak somewhat English, that means only 15% of the people there are fluent in English.

What country did Puerto Rico get its independence?

Although Puerto Rico is a country, it is not an independent country. Puerto Rico is a US territory, officially known Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Estado Libre Asociado in Spanish). There are some who believe that Puerto Rico was on its way to independence when Spain granted the Island an Autonomic Charter (Carta Autonómica) which granted many political and administrative privileges, but all this came to a halt in 1898. In 1898, Spain lost the Spanish-American War to the USA. Puerto Rico was part of the war booty that Spain had to turn over to the USA government. Until 1952, the Island was considered simply a territory. In 1952, the United Nations pressured the United States until it granted Puerto Rico its own Constitution, and permitted its citizens to vote for their own governor instead of being governed by an appointed governor. What country is rico in?

Puerto RicoContrary to what some people believe, Puerto Rico is NOT its own country. Puerto Rico is an commonwealth of the United States. The head of the Puerto Rican government is the President of the United States, elected by the citizens of the United States. The people of Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens (since 1917), pay U.S. income taxes and have a non-voting representative in the U.S. Congress (only allowed to observe). Puerto Rico is under U.S. customs jurisdiction. The people of Puerto Rico are citizens of Puerto Rico but constantly migrate to the United States mainland. The population of Puerto Ricans in the United States is larger than the population of Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico.Puerto Rico has a constitution but cannot self-govern themselves as it was given to the United States through the Treaty of Paris 1898. The island has a military base called Fort Buchannan that is used to protect them as they cannot provide a military for themselves.
