Richard M. Nixon was President from 20 January 1969 to 9 August 1974.

Nixon served only 1 full term. However, he was elected twice, but during his second term, his administration (specifically the CREEP, the Committee to Re-Elect the President) was tied to a series of illegal activities in what was coined the "Watergate Scandal." The most publicized event in the scandal occurred on June 17, 1972, when 5 men were caught breaking and entering into the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington D.C. The burglary was not such a problem as Nixon was never directly tied to it, and even the fact that Nixon tried to meddle with the investigation during two weeks did not necessarily mean his presidency was over. However, the fact that he denied this meddling meant he was forced to resign after it was almost sure he would be impeached.

November 6th, 1968 and re-elected November 4th, 1972
Richard Nixon was elected President in 1968 and reelected in 1972. (In 1972 he won every state except Massachusetts and Washington DC) He was forced to resign from office in 1974 because he covered up what he knew about the break in of Democratic Party Offices at the Watergate Hotel in 1972.
