The Islas Filipinas was not a colony of Spain, crazy as it sounds. Thorough material is available in Castilian (Spanish), as well as everything else it's hard to discuss Philippine history in English. Here is some material: http://www.proyectos-saluda.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1779&Itemid=156 In addition, remember that today's archipelago became the Capitanía General de Las Indias Orientales (General Captaincy of East Indies), governing over Guam/Marianas, Carolinas, Palaus, Marquesas, etc etc. It was the seat of power of the Indias Orientales. Just my two cents, email me at alvaro@proyectos-saluda.org, or leave a comment in link above noted. Thanks
