What were the results of the civil war in china?

The Chinese Civil War ended when major active battles came to a halt in 1949-50'. The Republic of China was caused by a number of factors including a U.S. special convoy cease fire which disrupted the Nationalists' efforts to defeat the Communist party of China, the worsening of social and economic problems in Nationalist controlled areas and inconsistent American aid to the Nationalists. Results of the civil war ended in the People's Republic proclaiming it's capital at Beiping, which was renamed Beijing. The Nationalists retreated from mainland China to the island of Taiwan, which at that point was still an occupied territory of Japans. Very little resistance of Communist control ensued the retreat to Taiwan for a short time, though a PRC attempt to take control of ROC controlled Taiwan was thwarted. This halted the Communists advance on Taiwan. Taipei, Taiwan became the proclaimed capital of the Republic of China and their power was continually asserted. There would be, by 1995, a Third Taiwan Strait Crisis, when the PRC tested a series of missiles in close range to Taiwan. This would be the final act of violence or hostility between the two nations. The year 2000 brought a new presidency in Taiwan, one of the Democratic Progressive Party who did not share the Chinese Nationalist ideology as his predecessor. Trade began to and continued to grow since this election and a significant warming between the two countries has resumed and continues to grow to this day.
