Well, the Hohokam Indians lived in the Tucson area way back from about 300AD to 1450AD.

When the Tucson area was under Spanish control, Father Kino came across the town of Chuk-son back in 1692.

Mexico won it's independence from Spain in 1821. The US purchased the lower part of Arizona and some other land in the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. That's when the Tucson area became part of the United States. But Arizona wasn't officially a state until 1912.

The University of Arizona held its first classes in 1891. The first Municipal airport was opened in 1919. So, it's been around a long, long time.
