Soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US sent troops to England for further training. The FIRST deployment of US combat units into enemy-held territory in Europe occurred on 8 Novemeber 1942, when the US landed on Northern Africa at three landing sites. Of course, there were previous events by individual soldiers or commando raids but this was the first deployment of a large unit. This forces had to fight the Vichy French troops(occupied by Germany) and convince them to surrender. The first US unit to go into combat against the Germans occurred a little later when the 175 Field Artillery Battalion was loanded to the British during a battle in North Africa.

USA troops were to be sent to the aid of Britain and her allies soon after Japan attacked Pearl Harbour on the morning of December 7, 1941. America officially declared war against Japan after this "dastardly attack" as spoken in a speech by the American President, Franklin Roosevelt. A few days later, Hitler (an ally of Japan) also declared war, this time against America. Both Nazis Germany and Japan didn't realise, that the industrial might and manpower that America could provide was to be released against them, as America came to help Britain and her allies in their desperate struggle to survive the Nazis Germany onslaught in Europe.
